Longines was one of the biggest pioneers in producing high precision timekeepers. The history of experimentation with high frequency escapements at Longines starts in 1914 with stopwatches. They had 36,000 vph movements, and they were used, among other things, as timers in the Olympic games, which by the late 1930s had reached a level of competitiveness where tenth-of-a-second timing had become critical in telling winners from losers.
Longines was also the creator of one of the best-known chronometer-grade watches, the famous and one of the earliest high-frequency Longines Ultra-Chron using 36,000 bph. Only produced for 6 years, the Longines Utra-Chron was launched in 1967 to celebrateLogines's 100th anniversary, but also it came out at a time when the competition for accuracy in wristwatches was really fierce.
From Longines website – “Longines registered the Ultra-Chron mark in Switzerland on 28 October 1966. The entire line of models in this collection was distinguished from other models by its high-frequency movement. It was one of the most accurate watches of its time in serial production: Its name Ultra-Chron stands for Ultra-Chronometer, which means more accurate than a traditional Chronometer. The Longines Ultra-Chron was the last mechanical watch to equal the accuracy of the electronic tuning-fork watches of its time. But of course, without any battery.”

An iconic timepiece in pristine condition, it is like it came from a time machine! This is a vintage Longines automatic Ultra-Chron wristwatch dated from the late 1960s - one of watchmaking's most innovative eras.
It is a self-winding watch powered by a high-frequency movement caliber 431, 17 jewels, sweep-second hand, date indicator (set by changing 22:30-24h), the balance/balance-spring combination beats at a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour (guaranteed accurate to within one minute per month or two seconds per day), 40 hours power reserve, Swiss made. Serviced in July 2023.
This wactch still features the original sunburst silver dial with gold Arabic Numerals and gold hour markers, bold minute track and gold matching hands. The best way to view the high-frequency movement in action is the hand gliding around the dial. The date window is placed at 3 o'clock. The dial is signed with the Longines name applied and the original Ultra-Chron logo is also proudly applied on the dial.
Very attractite plus in excellent condition, this watch is cased in a beautiful 34.5mm round case, all in 10K gold filled. Original Longines crown. It comes on a vintage brown Kreisler Genuine Lizard two-piece strap.
This wristwatch is in good condition! It runs and keeps great time!

Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust lighting when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.

The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear but is fully operational and functions as intended.
